Clover Straight Tailor's Awl

Straight Awl with Protective Cover Used by a wide swath of craftspeople for about the last 7,000 years, awls have proved to be an indispensable tool for piercing and marking. From leather and wood to textiles and paper (an awl was used to punch out the first Braille alphabet) awls are simple tools with a multitude of functions.

You need this tool- I promise!

An awl has a very sharp point that is designed for marking surfaces and piercing small holes in heavy textiles such as canvas and leather. The point is helpful for a variety of other tasks such as turning under applique edges and poking out stubborn collar points. I use an awl when I'm covering snaps (to make an opening for the ball part of the snap), and this tool makes the job effortless. But it has another use, too - a lot of sewers use at the sewing machine, it to control the fabric just as it goes under the presser foot - it's safer and more efficient than using your fingers!
