All Natural Beeswax
One ounce bar of beeswax thread conditioner
Running your thread through a bit of conditioner before sewing will help to coat and strengthen it, thereby reducing tangling, fraying and knotting. All natural beeswax is the perfect aid for hand stitching and quilting. Once applied, beeswax stabilizes the thread allowing it to glide through the fabric with ease.
Beyond sewing, Beeswax has so many other practical uses. It is an ideal conditioner for leather. With it you can finish leather edges, form waxed cords as well as waterproofing leather and cloth. Beeswax is an excellent lubricant for punching and stitching tools. (And old dresser drawers too!)
Tips for Waxing Thread To coat hand sewing thread, draw thread across the bar of beeswax two or three times. Then press the waxed thread with your fingers to warm it a bit, drawing down the length of the thread so that it is evenly coated. Alternately, you can use a hot iron to melt the wax into the thread and to remove any excess. (Pressing also helps to soften the thread, making it easier to handle.) Ironing with the threads between the layers of a pressing cloth or even a paper bag is recommended if you don't want wax on your iron and ironing board.
In the 3rd picture, you can see two needles threaded with thread from the same spool. Only the thread in the back has been waxed. Can you see the difference in the way it appears when compared to the unwaxed? The unwaxed thread is limp and has a bit of tension from being on the spool. (This tension is what leads to tangling.) Whereas the waxed thread is stronger and relatively stiff, with some body to it.
Pure natural beeswax never spoils or goes bad. Though, over the years it tends to dry and crack. To "reinvigorate" the wax cake or bar, simply lay the wax on parchment paper and blast a few shots of steam from a hot iron over it.
This listing is for one bar of beeswax only. Needles, thread and felt pad are all available in separate listings.
