Essex Yarn Dyed Linen in Berry

This lightweight Essex Yarn Dyed Linen by Robert Kaufman, has a luxurious hand with a full-bodied drape. The addition of linen's naturally slubbed texture to a fabric composed of a natural warp and dyed weft, lends this material a heathered coloration overall. Craft crisp shirts, skirts, and lightweight shorts, jackets, bags and pants.

Please note, actual color may vary from photo image.

This listing is sold per half yard. Select qty: 1 for 1/2 yard, qty: 2 for 1 yard, qty: 3 for 1 1/2 yards, etc. Multiple yards of fabric will be cut in one continuous length. Fabric orders cannot be returned as they are cut to order so please double check your order before checking out.

Yarn Dyed= Reversible! What are yard dyed fabrics, you might ask? Yarn dyed fabrics are exactly what they sound like. Yarns are dyed into specific colors before being woven into a design. Often varying weights or textures of yarn are woven into the cloth to create a more textured fabric that is frequently double sided. This process takes additional time, planning, and engineering to achieve a particular design and will account for the slightly higher price point of yarn-dyed fabrics.

Versatility Take advantage of the versatility that linen offers. Due to its inherent strength and breathability, linen can be used in applications around the home as well as many types of garments and accessories. Use linen for throw pillows, napkins, quilting, tablecloths, aprons. Additionally, linen changes with care. For example, when washed and dried, linen takes on a soft and wrinkled look and texture. Press it for a crisp look or wash and wear for a natural rumpled look. In the last pictures, you can see some swatches of this linen once washed. It makes the softest napkins and dishcloths! And because this fabric is yarn dyed- you can pull the threads along the lengthwise and crosswise grain to create a self fringe.

Sewing Bags with Essex Linen In the photos you will see a picture of a tote bag, from my book, Sew Bags, The Practical Guide to making Purses, Totes, Clutches & More. This bag is made with Essex Linen in Charcoal and was made without washing the fabric, and backed with interfacing to provide additional structure. The next to last photo in the listing features multiple color ways of this linen, which have all been machine washed and dried. See how soft and comfortable the fabric looks?

I've made lots of beautiful bags with this fabric. Perhaps you'd like a signed copy of my book, Sew Bags, The Practical Guide to Making Purses, Totes, Clutches & More, to make a bag for yourself- or a gift.
