Fashion Design Camp, Ages 8-16

DESCRIPTION

In this five day camp, we are going to learn all about the fashion design process. From a design brief to how to take an inspiration idea to an actual garment, while focusing on construction and finishing, your child will leave with a strong foundation in fashion sewing.  This camp is open to kids and teens and is a bit more complex than the Fashion Camp, Jr.

To keep young designers engaged, lessons are hands-on, age appropriate, and easy to follow. Class begins with a refresher on how to use a sewing machine, our bernette sewing machines are equipped with speed control and finger guards for a safe and fun environment. Students begin their first project during their first class. Throughout camp they learn the fundamentals of sewing and fashion design while use child-friendly patterns to make fashionable items during their class.*

Each child works on their project at their own pace. With a small student/teacher ratio, there is lots of guidance. The studio has six sewing stations set up allowing for each child to have an individual space with which to work and learn.

Projects progress in difficulty to build your child's sewing skills and change each camp so that students can continue to sew and learn.

*PROJECT COMPLETION AND ATTENDANCE
Campers must attend the entire camp in order to complete their projects.  If a camper must miss a day, you may schedule time during Open Sew Studio hours, for an additional charge, to complete their project.  While I do my best to ensure the kids projects are completed during camp, sometimes that is not possible. However, it is ultimately up to the student how they choose to spend their class time.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Fashion camps are beginner friendly, but new students will need to attend a Beginner Sewing Workshop before camp begins. The Beginner Sewing Workshop is designed to teach the basics of sewing; including how to use the sewing machine, how to pin and cut fabric, and how to maintain a consistent seam allowance. If your child has sewn with me before, in weekly classes or in previous summer camps, they will not need to register for the workshop unless they feel that they would benefit from a refresher. The Beginner Sewing Workshops are held monthly on Saturday afternoons and throughout the summer to make it an easy add-on to camp.
Materials Included: All materials and supplies are included.
Requirements: Students must have a basic working knowledge of the sewing machine, or have completed at least one camp or sewing session with me before registering. If not, they will need to take a Beginning Sewing Workshop prior to class.
