Teen Sewing and Design Program
In the Teen Sewing and Design Program at Little Stitch Studio students learn to sew and create clothing for themselves. Each student works on their chosen project at their own pace. To provide excellence in instruction, classes are limited to five students each. In the past years students have learned some pattern making as well as fashion illustration, the history of fashion and all about textiles. Sewing combines the best of art, science, math, history and sustainability.
Session One Classes begin the week of September 5. Classes meet weekly for 90 minutes. Options for Teens and Tweens are on Wednesdays from 5-6:30, Fridays 4-5:30 and 6-7:30pm. All supplies are included and monthly billing is available.

Ornament Sewing Workshop

A-1: Learn to Sew Session 1:: Get to know your machine
In this class you will learn all the basics of sewing, including learning the parts of the sewing machine and how they work, how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and troubleshoot common issues. Once you've threaded the machine you'll learn how to sew a seam, change the settings on the machine, and the importance of a seam allowance.

A-2: Learn to Sew Session 2::All About Fabric
Selecting fabric for a project is one of the most exciting - and important steps in creating a garment. Among the sewing skills that you will develop over time is the ability to work with a variety of different fabrics. Working well with fabric includes choosing fabrics that are suitable for a particular project, as well as the appropriate needles, thread, sewing techniques and machine settings. In this workshop, we are going to be discussing fabrics and fibers. How to select the right fabric for your project, as well as the differences between knit, woven and non-woven fabrics. We will cover a broad swath of textiles from natural fibers such as cotton, linen, wool, and silk to synthetics and even some specialty fabrics such as lace and sequins. You will gain a better understanding of fabric, fibers and their relative attributes in terms of weight, structure and drape that will enable you to choose fabric with confidence.
